The Mari Lwyd is a Welsh folk custom with a history dating back several hundred years. While the details have always varied, traditionally it is performed by a group, with one member carrying around a horse skull garnished with ribbons, bells, and a cloth, and mounted on top of a pole. The custom is still practiced in the present day, no longer confined only to Wales, and there are now even more variations to its rules and form.
